Hello! I’m sure my ‘once in a while posts are Hello! I’m sure my ‘once in a while posts are getting old’ and I’m trying to be better (I promise). ⁣⁣
Recently, I have thought back to why I decided to share my journey, and there’s a new post on my blog because there’s so much to be said. ⁣⁣
Because I have been inspired by brilliant women, and I understand the importance of sharing my story, especially as a young African girl with a unique journey, I will share my experience to help others. I believe that my experiences and information have value. There are a lot of things I wish I knew earlier as an international student. I have countless plans and I pray God helps me to execute them.⁣⁣
Reintroducing myself, my name is Edidiong Essien, I am a graduate student at UIC-Rockford, studying Medical biotechnology.
I recently joined the nanomedicine lab and under Dr Divyas supervision, I am using/taking advantage of nanotechnology and nanoparticles as a targeted drug delivery tool for therapeutic efficacy (cool stuff right?). #mybiotechhub

With #finals coming up soon and #springsemester coming to an end, I’ll like to hear from you. What’s so hard about online school? 🤔

I’m still trying to plan my week/day even though I’m not strictly following it. I shared a short post on my blog: A week in my life.

A wise girl once said ‘when in doubt, highlight A wise girl once said ‘when in doubt, highlight it all’. That wise girl is me 😅. I use different colors to highlight different things.
Here, I used pink for the titles, yellow for results, blue for significant results (I think). I don’t know why I used green as well. I also underlined the figures and tables referenced in the text.
Do you highlight while studying too?
P.S - I miss the library and study rooms in school.
Hello Everyone, how are you doing? Hmm, I really Hello Everyone, how are you doing?

Hmm, I really don’t have much to say these days. My friends have been harassing me to put up a blogpost as I haven’t put anything up this year. I don’t know if I really have anything knowledgeable to put out yet. .
This evening (Good Friday), I made a presentation and I realized that I’m just as nervous before my online presentation as I am before physical presentations (I wonder why). .
Online school is really not the same for me and being miles away from my family and friends is not helpful either. But I just have to push on.
So, that’s how I’m doing. How about you? How are you doing? How are you navigating our new ‘normal’?
In my undergrad class, we were 20% girls. In my cl In my undergrad class, we were 20% girls. In my class now, we are 88% girls. This is something that makes me so happy 😁 .

I honestly miss posting science stuff on here. I m I honestly miss posting science stuff on here. I miss posting here, but I had to stay away for a while because I felt some type of way (either I had too many commitments or I didn’t feel I was doing enough to post about) and needed some things to be in place first. I miss how I got to teach something with every post on here .
.
Now how do I make it up? To post everyday from January? Or is that too much commitment? 🤔 I’ve also been posting stuff on my blog. #linkinbio to read them 🤗

Last week, I presented a research poster at a Biot Last week, I presented a research poster at a Biotechnology Conference 🤗
.
.
My presentation was based on my undergraduate research work and I’m so proud of the feedback I got 😅. I wanted to play this down, but then this is actually a big step in my career and I’m so proud of myself 😭
.
.
I shared a post on my blog #mybiotechhub #linkinbio on how to prepare for your first poster presentation. .
Should I share an updated post on my experience at the conference and presentation?

Last weekend, I attended the #tedxlagos event whic Last weekend, I attended the #tedxlagos event which was really amazing!
.
One of the speakers made me reflect on why I actually tell stories; they had children speak, and then a scientist!!! 👨🏾‍🔬. Okay, this scientist talk made me so happy, I’m not going to lie
.
.
I had a really good time at the event, I discovered new artists and I ate a lot 😋. I also got to talk network and talk about my blog #mybiotechhub , science 🧪 🧫 and my interests in #sciencecommunication .
.
I’ll share three of my key takeouts:
1. The quality of your close relationships matter, because good relationships keep us happier and healthier.
2. There are so many reasons why not, these can make up the reason why you should in the first place. Find the reasons why!
The last one is a question I’ve had on my mind for a long time, and I’d love to know your answers too!
3. What does success mean to you? .

Shoutout to my sister @imabasi she’s the realest!
Peacocks 🦚 . . I saw this beautiful peafowl and Peacocks 🦚 .

I saw this beautiful peafowl and decided to take a picture and share 10 sciencey 🧬 facts about them
.
.
There are three varieties/species of the peafowl -The Indian (Pavo cristatus) Green (Pavo muticus) and Congo (Afropavo congensis)
.

Peafowls are not only possess aesthetic value, but also medicinal and economic 🤑value as well
.
.
Peacock feathers accounts for 60% of the bird's total body length and with a wingspan measuring 5 feet, it is one of the largest flying birds in the world 🌎 .
.
A peafowl can live to over the age of 20 years
.
.
A group of peacock is called a party or muster .
.
They live in temperate forests 🌳 .
.
Peacocks can fly, but they prefer to stay on the ground most of the time .
.
The word "peacock" is often used to describe males and females, but females are actually peahens, offspring are peachicks and peafowl is all-encompassing; peacocks technically are just the boys
.

Peacocks use their feathers to attract the females 😅
.
.
Peafowl are polygamous🤯
.

ELISA 🧪 🧫 . . Enzyme-Linked Immuno-Sorbent ELISA 🧪 🧫 .
.

Enzyme-Linked Immuno-Sorbent Assay is a biochemistry assay, that uses antibodies to detect the presence of a protein
.
.
.
I had a great time honing my ELISA skills with the lovely @bowofoluwaa in her lab. She’s such a cute teacher 😅
.
.
The most interesting thing about ELISA for me, is the different colour changes (when you add a reagent, when you wash and when a sample is positive). .
.
I hope to upload a post on ELISA (with beautiful pictures 😩) on my blog next week 🤞🏾. I’ll talk about all I learnt and some reasons why we carry out the technique. I also need someone to hold me accountable to that 😅
